Dr. Ming Pan is the Senior Vice President of Global Business Development at Gatan, Inc.  His electron microscopy career started with Prof. K.H. Kuo (1982) at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shenyang. In 1984, he joined Prof. J.M. Cowley’s group at Arizona State University.  In 1990, Dr. Pan received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from ASU.  His research projects included the study of the relationship between crystal structures of nano-particles and their catalytic properties using electron nano-diffraction technique in STEM (VG HB-5) and HREM imaging.  From 1990-1994, Dr. Pan was a research scientist in the Center for High Resolution Electron Microscopy (now the J.M. Cowley Center for HREM) at ASU.  In the early 1990s he pioneered the development of special low-dose technique for imaging radiation sensitive materials such as molecular sieves at high spatial resolution using digital imaging technique.  In 1995 he joined Gatan and held various positions in product development, product management, product marketing, sales and business development.
